What you can get involved in!
BusesWe drive our buses, which are fully equipped mobile youth centres, into different estate communities in London each week. These attract our biggest crowds! Young people turn up to have fun, and there’s always a chance to lead discussions and activities which challenge and inspire. All you need is to like teenagers and you’ll find a place to fit in.
Time Commitment A minimum of two hours a month, but could be every week. |
MusicMusic sessions happen inside our mobile recording studios, where young people can explore lyric-writing and produce their own tracks. You’ll encourage young people to engage with the creative process, but you won’t be required to operate the equipment. If you have a keen interest in music, especially UK Drill, Grime, Hip-Hop and R&B, then you’ll fit right in! All of our community group sessions happen in or around schools and estates.
Time Commitment A minimum of two hours a month, but could be every week. |
SportsIf you love playing sports and interacting with young people, then volunteering on one of our sports sessions is for you! You’ll be adaptable and energetic, but a high level of sporting skill isn’t required! You’ll join a football or gym session, and you’ll have other volunteers and XLP sports staff encouraging you along the way.
Time Commitment A minimum of two hours a month, but could be every week. |
CareersOur Employability programme helps 16-24 year olds get past the barriers that hinder them from finding employment. It’s similar to mentoring but with the objective of helping young people find a job. If you’ve got employment skills and the time to sit down with a young person on this journey, you’d be great at this!
Time Commitment Two hours a month, online or in person. ian.hiley@xlp.org.uk |
Company VisitsIf you can host an employment skills workshop at your office, or online, it could make a huge difference for a young person’s career journey. Typically a session you could offer would include tips for CV writing and interviews, and some practice speed interviews for the young people.

MentoringMentoring is chance for you to spend one on one time with a young person. You’ll be a role-model and trusted advisor, and support mentees in working towards achieving their goals. No specific skills are required for this role and full training is provided. If you’re passionate about making a lasting difference in a young persons life - then this is for you!
Time Commitment An hour a week, over a year, to ensure a lasting difference is made in the young person’s life. |
TutoringDo you want to practically help young people with their schooling? Online tutoring could be for you. As a tutor you’ll help with online tutoring for young people who are preparing to take their Maths and English GCSEs. GCSEs in Maths and English are required, and full training will be provided for volunteers.
Time Commitment An hour a week for up to a year, for a minimum of two terms. |
