Come to learn, be inspired, and to serve...

This summer XLP is teaming up with local churches in London to offer you a fantastic week of urban mission in the heart of London. If you have a passion for youth work, want to put your faith into practice, or just fancy a taste of what London has to offer - XLP’s Urban Mission Week is a great way of experiencing an amazing week of Christian mission and most importantly, making a real positive difference to families and communities in some of London’s most deprived boroughs.

We welcome both individuals and youth groups to attend the week – it’s a great way to meet new people and build new relationships and also a good opportunity to strengthen and develop existing ones within your youth group.

What will the week look like?

<

Every morning all volunteers will meet together to worship, pray and have bible studies (led by Patrick Regan OBE, CEO of XLP). Volunteers will then go out into the communities that XLP works in and will carry out a variety of different youth work and social action projects ranging from sports sessions, arts and crafts activities, gardening, litter picking, painting and decorating, ‘Fun Days’, prayer walking and also youth work activities on XLP's double-decker bus. Each evening there will be time for personal reflection and prayer.

Why get involved?

  •

  • It’s a great opportunity to put your faith into action:

“What I experienced was an intense week of social action that really pushed me and required my faith to become a reality.”

There is a strong emphasis throughout the week on Bible study and worship. You are encouraged to explore and develop your faith on a personal level but are also given the opportunity to outwork the Word practically, putting your faith into action through different activities.

  • You’ll make a significant, positive, long-term impact to a community:

“I left with a real hope that the Kingdom of God would become a reality in the lives of all those living in Tower Hamlets.”

Although XLP lives and works in these communities week in, week out, the broad reach of Urban Mission Week encourages the whole community to come together in a way it wouldn’t usually. This creates amazing opportunities to build new relationships, go deeper with the ones that already exist, and have a practical, positive impact on the lives of those you meet.

  • It’s great way of meeting new people and experiencing amazingly diverse communities in the heart of London:

“To be part of a team of people who gave themselves so recklessly to God, each other and the outside community, in the way that the Urban Mission Week team did, was truly inspiring.”

If you are considering a gap year with XLP or simply interested in exploring London – Urban Mission Week is a great way of being part of an amazing team, getting a taste of London life and gaining a great insight into the work of XLP.
