The London borough of southwark is a hugely multi cultural borough where XLP has been working in southwark since its conception in 1996.
Southwark has an estimated population of 253,800 with one in five of the total population being below the age of 15.
A borough with unbelievable diversity, Southwark has at it's top of the Southbank, Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, Southwark cathedral and many business institutions and at the bottom of the borough Dulwich private schools, lush parks and extravagant shops. However, the centre of the borough is less affluent and the gulf between rich and poor is an extreme one with massive regeneration happening in the centre of the borough.
As I have been employed on and off since the age of 13 in southwark I feel a deep connection with the area, and as a south east Londoner I have always felt the riches of the area have long been overshadowed by the negative media stereotype that comes with the name of some of the areas in the borough.
A beautiful place to live and work southwark is never dull and always full of life.
Chris
